2019 Economic Forecast Luncheon Event Details

On April 7, 1933, the Cullen-Harrison Act went into effect after signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who then famously said, “I think this would be a good time for a beer.” Wikipedia has plenty more information on the subject of National Beer Day, but we thought this might be a good time to reflect on the resurgence of the craft brewing industry in Cayuga County.

Cayuga County is home to five growing craft breweries as well as retail markets, bars, and restaurants that sell specialty beer, cider, and wine. Our county has a history in the brewing industry dating back to the late 19th century when there were at least a dozen breweries along the Owasco River. The largest of which was the Lakeshore Brewing Co. at 10 Garden Street, which produced 30,000 barrels a year.

We welcome the return of craft breweries and smaller-scale production businesses to our county during this time of growth.  CEDA is here to assist any Cayuga County business looking to startup or expand.  Our specialists offer free and confidential assistance navigating local and state government financing, incentives, training, and technical options.  We do this by working collaboratively with other private organizations and public agencies in Cayuga County and beyond.  We are hosting a forum on the “Intent to Propose” and state funding process Tuesday, April 10, which can be viewed via livestream on our Facebook page. Contact us when you are ready to discuss options for your business, and enjoy a local craft-beverage this weekend in honor of National Beer Day!
