What is a Strategic Plan for Economic Development?
Many communities, counties and regions will draft strategic plans in order to identify their current economic condition, analyze where they want to grow and then use the plan to list action steps, goals and objectives to achieve the results they want to see. Time lines for progress and tasks assigned to specific organizations will also be a component of the plan.
Additionally, the plan process allows for public and stakeholder input throughout the process. The plan will contain a detailed list of the strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities for continued analysis and improvement.
What will be in the Cayuga County Plan?
The strategic plan CEDA is preparing will provide many useful pieces of information. It will serve to identify what drives the Auburn and Cayuga County economy and what future trends may have the greatest impact. This would include but not be limited to: A summary of the area economy and identification of the key economic forces within our region; a sector analysis of the current business and industry mix; an assessment of the area’s economic strengths and weaknesses; an assessment of the businesses and industries that align with our strengths and economic vision. An action plan will be developed for achieving measurable business and economic development goals.
What is the timeline for delivering the Strategic Plan?
A draft of the plan will be ready in late May, 2011 with a final draft scheduled for mid-June 2011. A detailed time line can be accessed here.

Yes, the City of Auburn Comprehensive Plan was completed in 2009 and provides a thorough review of the planning, development and commercial plans and conditions within Auburn.
